Guide 02

Urban Cottage

Snow White comes home from a long day at the office, kicks off her pumps, and puts on a kettle. It's whimsical, unpretentious, and cozy. It's possible you got most of your furniture from your grandparents.

01 / Your style

How I'd describe it

What it is

  • lived in
  • folk art, objects with a story, hand-painted
  • an intuitively collected mix of old and new

What it isn't

  • cluttered
  • digital, crisp, modern
  • polished & modern (or only antique!)
Mismatched chairs, pendant light with chain
"Granny" flower print on the pillow and the planter
Quaint objects, hand painted ceramic
retro bookshelf + unusual objects
gingham, unpretentious

What to DIY

DIY

Re-knob a dresser

Notes

Thrift (or buy) some vintage knobs and re-knob your dresser. You could have all the knobs be different, or keep to a certain style like all blue or all flower shaped (like the example).

DIY

Paint switch covers

Notes

This comes directly from your board and feels like the PERFECT way to add the hand-painted folk art touch. Maybe have Sarah over to help with the painting.

You could buy plastic covers, paint a base coat of white, then paint over them, and seal with polyurethane.

DIY

Self expression fridge

Notes

Your fridge is now your tumblr. I saw this a few times in your inspo and I love it. For once in your life you have your fridge completely to yourself, and it should be a reflection of you.

DIY

Peel and Stick Gel Backsplash

Notes

You have the perfect space for a tiled backsplash! I would probably attach these to something like acrylic or thin plywood first, then lightly attach that to the wall with strong double sided tape rather than sticking them directly to the wall, just to make move-out less stressful.

Pendant Tiffany Lamp Shade

I like this one because it feels a TINY bit more modern. Keep in mind it is small, so maybe place it at the bedside table.
